I’ve been watching the way that Fox News carefully crafts its headlines to specifically target its mush-brained audience for maximum deception and douchery, and it’s both infuriating and fascinating. But their audience needs a real name, so I’ve decided on what to call people who blindly swallow the poison that Fox News feeds them: Foxtards.
What do you think? It’s perfect and describes these morons exactly right. I don’t think it’s being used as an actual word anywhere, if Google can be believed. Maybe it’ll catch on? I certainly hope so…I’m already kind of disappointed that “twunt” is already in use.
I keep getting chain-letter emails from family members who buy into these nutty conspiracy theories about Obama’s healthcare plan. “They’re gonna exterminate our elderly! They’re gonna make abortions mandatory! They’re gonna force my child to get a sex change!” It’s that crazy, folks, and they’re that gullible. (They also have health insurance, unlike so many others…)
People scream about having to pay so much for health insurance, and they always will. But the minute someone tries to actually DO something about this broken system, the scumbags and nutjobs come out of the woodwork to fight it by spreading lies and deceiving the public into keeping the system just the way it is. Because, you see, there’s more money to be made in a broken system. But if you want change, you’ll get your facts straight before believing and spreading this kind of asinine rubbish.
ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, CNN and Fox are all refusing to report on the Pulitzer Prize winner who revealed that some retired generals were being paid to promote the Iraq war to the media. Not one word. Oh, these dirtbags also had undisclosed ties to companies that benefited from the war. Imagine that! Why isn’t there a place in Guantanamo for assholes like this? Aren’t they, like Bush, indirectly responsible for the deaths of thousands by spreading lies and propaganda?
The Army has had its own videogame
propaganda recruiting tool for a few years, but now they’ve got one that takes place in the future…complete with weapons and gadgets that may not even exist yet. Yeah, that makes for a realistic Army experience, mmm-hmmm. But the best part is that the simulated wars are actually hard to lose. “They didn’t want the vulnerabilities programmed in,” says the CEO of the gaming company who created this thing. That means your weapons always work, the enemies won’t learn and adapt to your attacks, and your team will likely win every battle. Because, you know, America always wins. Because we have God on our side. And stuff.
Get ready for a big, stinking load of televised bullshit as the GOP tries like hell to keep their seats from being snatched away in the upcoming election. They’re going to try to scare you, intimidate you, and coerce you into voting for them, because frankly they’ve got nothing left to go on. “Osama’s still out there! He’s gonna kill ya! Gonna blow ya up! C’mon, vote Republican and stay safe, secure, and stupid.” And, as usual, homosexuals and non-Christians need not apply. Nor would they necessarily want to.
It’s actually fascinating to watch the Republicans squirming in torment lately. They’re drowning in the polls, their filthy secrets and lies about the Iraq war (and other things) have come to light, they’ve finally admitted we’ve been defeated in Baghdad, and many people are simply getting tired of being lied to. Of course I expect the Dems to play up our fear of the nutjob Christian right, but the bald-faced propaganda coming from the GOP is simply stunning in its desperation and predictability.
Thank the gods I don’t watch T.V…
Some poor soul out there got out his digital crayon and scrawled this pathetic prayer chain email to spam all his friends with. It’s got all the usual “Yay USA! Screw France!” stuff, with some other nonsense about the ACLU. And, of course, people spammed others with it, unwilling to “break the chain.” Sigh. Too bad they didn’t realize that this one’s a hoax and nobody can prove its claims. Tee hee!
Hoax or not, I’ve seen dozens of others like it. I’m not as offended by the shmaltzy content as much as the chain letter aspect. The idea that “breaking the chain” will result in a bad outcome is one of the oldest and stupidest junk-mail hoaxes ever, and it’s even more moronic in email form. It’s like those things you were handed by some kid in high school: “Pass this around! Don’t break the chain or you’ll end up like Mrs. Pitlick of Dillhole, KY who ignored this letter and was killed in her own bed during a freak accident involving a blimp and some monkeys.”
Feh. This kind of patrio-religious dildonics reminds me of how Chuck Palahniuk referred to prayer chains in one of his books: “A spiritual pyramid scheme. As if you can gang up on God. Bully him around.”
Remember last year when the FCC laid out strict rules from TV broadcasters to clearly identify when they were broadcasting government propaganda videos during newscasts? Well, surprise-surprise: they’re ignoring the rules. The Center for Media and Democracy has published a report detailing the worst of these scumbag TV stations and what they’ve been up to, and it’s absolutely disgusting:
…The center also said that many of the 69 stations took steps to blend the fake segments into their news broadcasts. Some had their news reporters or anchors read scripts supplied by corporations, the report said, and many had altered screen graphics to include the station’s logo. The report said that a few stations had introduced publicists as if they were their on-air reporters. Only a handful of stations added any independently gathered information or videotape, it said.
The 69 stations reach about half the population of the United States.
…Congress and the F.C.C. took up the issue last spring after The New York Times reported that the federal government had produced hundreds of video news releases, many of which were broadcast without a disclaimer of the government’s role.
Goddamn, that makes me angry. This is yet another reason to STOP WATCHING NETWORK NEWS. You simply cannot trust what you’re seeing. Newspapers may not be much better, but they’ve got to be better than this. Also get your news from other countries like the BBC. Don’t trust these people, ever. Our Asshat-in-Chief is obviously behind this 100%, and regardless of how you feel about him, you should always have the right to know when your government is preaching to you. Fuck these lying, criminal scumbags.
The headline of this little story really made me snort: Bush concern at Iraq ‘propaganda’. Yes, our innocent little Shrubby-Poo is shocked — shocked! — to learn that our military is influencing the information that Iraqi news organizations are giving to the people over there. I mean, our government would never engage in such a depraved, dishonest activity. Not only is it un-American, it’s downright un-Christian. I blame the evil liberal media for concocting such vicious lies!
Finally, some good news to come out of our government: the Senate just passed a measure to ban government-sponsored propaganda “press releases”. Of course, Bush shifted most of the blame to the broadcasters, accusing them of not disclosing to the public that these are not news items but carefully-crafted government propaganda pieces authorized by his own people. But why would they disclose such a thing if they weren’t told to by the government? What if, in fact, they were told not to disclose it, but to just take the money and air what the government gives them? You can’t blame the broadcasters for airing what they’re told to by the Big Boys. Of course, you still should take all television news with a massive block of salt, but at least this is one less thing to mislead the masses.
A group called Start Change Now has an online petition against this fake news, although the Senate’s action should pretty much nip it in the bud…but you can can sign anyway, just to annoy the FCC. 🙂
In the next few days, as September 11 approaches, be aware that you, as a citizen and an obedient consumer, are going to be subjected to manipulation on a scale that you have probably never experienced before…aside from the first few weeks following the attacks, of course. You will be constantly bombarded by dramatic replays (in fast and slow motion) of the plane crashes, footage of people jumping to their deaths, audiotapes of calls made by panicked passengers and WTC employees, heartfelt daytime/nighttime/primetime specials such as “9/11 Through the Eyes of the Children”, endless posturing and countless patriotic speeches by corrupt government officials and politicians, and the occasional worthwhile story about heroic rescues.
The point here is not to say that any of it is bad or good… I am only asking that you be aware of what they are doing. You will be told how to feel about this situation, so be alert and remember that you are still allowed to have your own opinion and feel however you wish about it. Patriotic? Religious? Numb? Outraged? Indifferent? It’s your choice to make, not theirs. Propaganda is in your face all the time, and it will be especially thick in the next week or so. Watch for it in every newscast, every primetime special, every dramatic crash replay, every newspaper story, and especially in every speech made by one of our elected officials. Consider all points of view and come to your own conclusions. It’s all right, trust me.
