This is kinda old news by now, but it’s one of the many things I see popping up again during the next election.
Off to jail goes Kim Davis, the county clerk who refuses to do her legal duty—issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples—but also refuses to quit the position so that someone else might. Judge David Bunning, holding her in contempt of court, told her that he was a Catholic with his own religious beliefs, but “public officials must uphold the law.” Her failure to comply with the earlier court order, he said, could not be justified on religious grounds.
Oh, you know the Republican candidates are gonna trot her out every chance they get during the elections (assuming she’s out of jail by then, tee-hee!) since she’s their new poster-child for trying to paint Christians as “victims” of gay equality. They’re already circling their wagons around her, granting her martyrdom as they continue their screeching about the bullshit “war in religion” in America. And the best part? She’s been divorced three times and had children out of wedlock. Get off your fuckin’ moral high horse, lady. Maybe spend some of that jail time contemplating your own hypocritical behavior.
