This, folks, is the main reason I both pity and mock gay Republicans: eventually they find out the hard way that siding with Republicans means siding with homophobes and religious wingnuts, and suddenly they find themselves the target of persecution. Case in point: this guy was booted from the College Republicans group at Duke University once they found out he’s gay. They also sent him homo-bashing, racist, and threatening emails and generally made his life hell. As a result, the student senate really put the hammer down:
Five months after former Duke College Republicans president Justin Robinette claimed he was forced out of the group when club members learned he was gay, the Duke student senate has de-chartered and canceled funding for the organization for two years.
The senate voted to remove the club’s charter by a two-thirds vote and went 20-3 in ceasing their funding.
Shazam! Now that’s what I call a spankin’.
Of course, some gay Republicans are young and ignorant, and they simply don’t know better. Of this I can speak from experience — I actually thought I was a conservative many years ago, before I reached the Age of Reason. But others are old enough to know what they’re doing, and they’re very politically active within the Party of No, tirelessly working to pass laws restricting the rights of others as well as themselves. How sick is that?
And yet, thousands of gay folks still give Republicans their vote! It’s as if they enjoy being punished. They’re like submissive little bondage-boys begging Big Daddy G.O.P. to keep lashing their oiled, abused ass cheeks. (Ewww.) So while I’m glad this idiot college group lost their funding, I’ve also lost my sympathy for people like Justin Robinette. Let’s hope this experience gives him some food for thought.
