After several months with my newfound “Why bother?” attitude towards the election, skimming only headlines and avoiding 99% of the stories, here’s what I’ve gleaned about the top two Democratic candidates:
- Hillary is an evil, power-hungry dictator-in-waiting with a closetful of dirty, criminal secrets, and she’ll destroy this country if she’s ever allowed near the White House again. She’s a disgrace to ambitious women everywhere and deserves all the shame and ridicule being heaped upon her.
- Barak Obama is a glorious, shining example of truth, honor, and male virility. He will bring our country back from the brink of destruction and usher in a new era of freedom and prosperity and stuff.
As for the Republicans, well…besides McCain’s fidelity issues, I really don’t see that much about them in the headlines (unless I’m subconsciously blocking it out, which is always possible). Of course headlines don’t tell the whole story by any stretch, but this is how the media attempts to present a certain reality to the public and distract them from other things; they’re obsessed with tearing Hillary down and setting up all sorts of (false?) hopes for Obama. I’m sure that Hillary’s done a few things to deserve criticism, but I can’t believe that Obama is as shiny as they say. Not that I really care one way or the other, it’s just a big show to me.
Frankly, I don’t think America would elect either of these two — our voters have proven that they’re comfortable with being in perpetual war with whoever the government tells them is the latest enemy, so I have a feeling that we’re going to elect another Republican to make sure that doesn’t change. Even if someone like Ombama did manage to get elected as President, nothing good would come of it. Assuming he wasn’t corrupted by big-business interests (which would be a major miracle), the Republicans would stonewall and attack everything he tried to do and nothing would ever change for the better. Again, this is how America likes things: complete gridlock. It’s more like a reality show that way, and Jeebus knows how much we like our reality shows…
