Oh, this is delicious. An epidemic outbreak of a spamming worm has been wreaking havoc on idiot MySpace users who don’t know the risks of clicking on suspicious links from strangers. The punishment? Relentless spamming of their Friends network. Ho-ho, that’s brilliant! Here’s an example of one of the scam messages that these dumbass users are falling for:
Another one reads: “i’m just hittin you up, as a friend, to fill you in on this exclusive deal to get a FREE $500 Macy’s Gift Card, yes, FREE! just answer a question or two and BOOM you got a shopping spree lol!”
Members fall into the phishing net by clicking on a provided link in the posting, which in some cases comes in the form of what looks like a video featuring a scantily-clad young woman. After clicking on the link, the member is taken to a faux MySpace login page where the user is asked to re-enter his or her username and password. That information, however, is actually being sent to the “phisher,” a third party illegally acquiring the member’s personal information.
Obviously, only the clueless and gullible need apply. These are truly stupid people. Yes, stupid. On most scams I can forgive some people for being misled or ignorant, because some scams are very cleverly disguised, but I feel zero sympathy for people who click suspicious links or open strange email attachments. How many years now have we had big loud warnings about viruses, phishing, and other scams blasted in all forms of media? Unless you live in a cave, it’s impossible to avoid. The information is there, and if you’re going to enter the online world you need to pay attenion. If you’re living in complete ignorance of this sort of thing nowadays, you deserve to get scammed. You’ve earned it, and hopefully learned a lesson. I think it’s hiLARious when these panicky reports come out about click-anything users being tormeted by their stupid behavior. There’s simply no excuse for it these days, especially among the tech-savvy youngsters out there who live and breathe electronic communication. So stop pretending to be an innocent victim and get a fucking clue, hmmm?
