A pair of girder beams that happened to collapse into the shape of a crucifix during the 9/11 bombings may soon be installed at the soon-to-open memorial.  Of course, seeing any two sticks crossed anywhere in nature automatically means it’s a sign from God, right?  Of course!  Because only a being of infinite knowledge, wisdom, and presence in the universe would give proof of his existence by such random, roundabout means.  *snort*  But I digress…

An outspoken atheist has challenged the erection (?) of this so-called crucifix, and ohhhhh the Christians are angry.  In fact, they’re angry enough to kill.  That is, judging by the Fox News Facebook page, which was flooded with death threats once they aired the story.  That’s right, people are willing to make public death threats over this.

Personally, if they must install a religious symbol there, I think there should be one for each religion represented by the victims, since nearly half weren’t Christians.  Or don’t put anything there at all, just let it be.  But regardless of what you think of the issue, in no way does it need to devolve into death threats.  But I guess that’s where some people go right off the bat.  My, such tolerance!  Be sure and look at the screenshots he’s posted as proof.  Stay classy, Foxtards!

The Fox News Facebook page got over 8,000 death threats posted on its wall after the Communications Director for the American Atheists, Blair Scott, appeared on the network’s “America Live” discussing the group’s lawsuit hoping to stop the erection of a crucifix at the World Trade Center Memorial.

Charlie Booker writes a scathing piece in The Guardian about this non-mosque that has America fired into a frothy frenzy.  He begins with a slight exaggeration of how people feel about this thing:

The planned “ultra-mosque” will be a staggering 5,600ft tall – more than five times higher than the tallest building on Earth – and will be capped with an immense dome of highly-polished solid gold, carefully positioned to bounce sunlight directly toward the pavement, where it will blind pedestrians and fry small dogs.  The main structure will be delimited by 600 minarets, each shaped like an upraised middle finger, and housing a powerful amplifier:  when synchronised, their combined sonic might will be capable of relaying the muezzin’s call to prayer at such deafening volume, it will be clearly audible in the Afghan mountains, where thousands of terrorists are poised to celebrate by running around with scarves over their faces, firing AK-47s into the sky and yelling whatever the foreign word for “victory” is.

He also clarifies just what this thing is, if it’s not a mosque, and why proxmity to Ground Zero has nothing to do with anything at all.

Wait, it gets duller.  It’s not being built by extremists either.  Cordoba House, as it’s known, is a proposed Islamic cultural centre, which, in addition to a prayer room, will include a basketball court, restaurant, and swimming pool.  Its aim is to improve inter-faith relations.  It’ll probably also have comfy chairs and people who smile at you when you walk in, the monsters.

…New York being a densely populated city, there are lots of other buildings and businesses within two blocks of Ground Zero, including a McDonald’s and a Burger King, neither of which has yet been accused of serving milkshakes and fries on hallowed ground. Regardless, for the opponents of Cordoba House, two blocks is too close, period. Frustratingly, they haven’t produced a map pinpointing precisely how close is OK.

NYC: The racists are really coming out of the woodwork

Dick Cavett of all people (where’s he been lately?) has written an op-ed on the NY Times about the whole WTC non-mosque outrage currently sweeping New York City.  He pretty much sums up what the rest of us are feeling:  being completely floored by these people who try to rationalize their racist, contradictory opinions, these bigots who claim to be fighting for freedom of speech and religion while fighting to deny others those exact same rights.  Out of one side of their mouth comes “I love Muslims and they’re welcome to worship as they please!”, while out the other side comes “Muslmins are terrorists and I don’t want this terror-cell mosque near this sacred site!”

A woman tells the news guy on the street, “I have absolutely no prejudice against the Muslim people.  My cousin is married to one.  I just don’t see why they have to be here.”  A man complains that his opposition to the mosque is “painting me like I hate the whole Arab world.”  (Perhaps he dislikes them all as individuals?)

I remain amazed and really, sincerely, want to understand this.  What can it be that is faulty in so many people’s thought processes, their ethics, their education, their experience of life, their understanding of their country, their what-have-you that blinds them to the fact that you can’t simultaneously maintain that you have nothing against members of any religion but are willing to penalize members of this one?  Can you help me with this?

Well, it’s official:  to the average racist-minded citizen, black = Muslim.  Thus, following that logic, black = America-hatin’, evildoer Muslim terrorist who wants to bomb your city, rape your wives, and eat your babies.  In that order.

It was just a matter of time, though, wasn’t it?  Those who think all Muslims are terrorists are really just afraid of non-whites in general.  When your worldview begins with skin color, you’re only headed for trouble.

So what happens when a “union carpenter who works at Ground Zero” stops by the idiot demonstration to ask why these yokels are coming to New York and making a stink about something that has literally nothing to do with their lives of driving gas-guzzlers around some half-abandoned exurb somewhere while listening to AM radio and hissing through their dentures at the Taco Bell for letting all those Messicans into Real America?  Watch the awful video and find out for yourself!

The hysteria over this N.Y. non-mosque is getting out of hand

This proposal to build an Islamic community center (not a mosque) four blocks away from the WTC site is drawing all kinds of racists and crazies out into the open.  Not only are they still calling Obama a Muslim, a claim based on zero facts whatsoever, but they’re actually saying that this issue has nothing to do with freedom of religion.  Say what?

Mosque hysteria reached fevered pitch Sunday as angry protesters opposed to building an Islamic center near Ground Zero squared off with supporters of the project.

“It’s very insensitive to the families,” said retired firefighter Tim Brown who escaped the collapse of the Twin Towers. “This is not about religious freedom.”

“All we are saying is don’t build this mosque here at Ground Zero on our cemetery.”

…One group brought a life-sized mock missile with a dummy terrorist draped over top holding a sign that read: “Obama, your middle-name is Hussain [sic], we understand. Bloomberg, what’s your excuse.”

First of all, the community center will be four blocks away from the WTC site, not “on” the site.  Everyone knows this, of course, but they choose to ignore it.  Second:  what cemetery?  The WTC site is still a dead crater and New York hasn’t done anything with it for nine whole years.  Isn’t anyone outraged about the lack of a memorial?  Isn’t that disrespecting the dead?  Oh yeah, now I remember:  they can’t decide on what to put there.  Nine years, folks–it’s time to do something at the WTC site and quit bitching about how life is going on all around it.

And let’s not forget that there are strip clubs operating even closer to the WTC site than this proposed non-mosque would be.  And yet, nobody’s bitching about how insensitive that is to the 9/11 dead.  No, because that would be too consistent, and people are rarely consistent when they’re blinded by bigotry, rage, and irrational thinking.

I think what these people are really doing is taking Bin Laden’s side.  They’re letting the terrorists win, and they don’t even realize it.

Some of us are gone now.
How shall we remember them?


No flags.
No merchandise.
No war plans.
No blind patriotism.
No fear-mongering.
No vengeance.
No bloodthirsty politicians.
No propaganda.
No division.
No zealots of any religion.

Just for one day.

Honoring them requires
none of these things.Haven’t we had enough?

9/11: What’s next?

In the next few days, as September 11 approaches, be aware that you, as a citizen and an obedient consumer, are going to be subjected to manipulation on a scale that you have probably never experienced before…aside from the first few weeks following the attacks, of course.  You will be constantly bombarded by dramatic replays (in fast and slow motion) of the plane crashes, footage of people jumping to their deaths, audiotapes of calls made by panicked passengers and WTC employees, heartfelt daytime/nighttime/primetime specials such as “9/11 Through the Eyes of the Children”, endless posturing and countless patriotic speeches by corrupt government officials and politicians, and the occasional worthwhile story about heroic rescues.

The point here is not to say that any of it is bad or good…  I am only asking that you be aware of what they are doing.  You will be told how to feel about this situation, so be alert and remember that you are still allowed to have your own opinion and feel however you wish about it.  Patriotic?  Religious?  Numb?  Outraged?  Indifferent?  It’s your choice to make, not theirs.  Propaganda is in your face all the time, and it will be especially thick in the next week or so.  Watch for it in every newscast, every primetime special, every dramatic crash replay, every newspaper story, and especially in every speech made by one of our elected officials.  Consider all points of view and come to your own conclusions.  It’s all right, trust me.

9/11 forewarning?

So!  The news is out: Bush and the White House (aaaand the FBI) apparently had forewarning about some sort of terrorist attack involving airplanes and rabid Muslim extremists. They didn’t have enough information to stop the attacks, but people are angry about it and asking questions. Well, how DARE you question our President at a time like this, when our country’s freedom is on the very brink of being snatched away from us by terrorists? How DARE you criticize this brave man who has put his own life on the line to defend our cherished American way of life? What are you, some sort of anti-American sympathizer pig? A rabble-rousing hippie communist peacemongering scumbag, aiding an abetting the enemy in this time of warfare? You people ought to be ASHAMED of yourselves! Critical thinking and asking questions about actions taken (or not taken) by our beloved President outright smacks of treason. Anyone who raises ANY questions about our brave President’s actions can go straight to Hell as far as I’m concerned. Why? Because I’m a PROUD AMERICAN, and PROUD AMERICANS don’t ask questions about their leaders’ behavior or criticize them during highly-patriotic times like these. So those of you who attacked others who didn’t follow the party line, who refused to get caught up in the fairweather patriotism and War Fever spreading like wildfire, who dared to speak their contrary opinions in the face of blind, fanatical flag-waving…if you attacked people like that for being unpatriotic, you may kindly shut up now. We have learned the lesson you taught us well:

Raising questions is BAD.
Blind, feel-good patriotism is GOOD.

Got it?  Now, go do some patriotic shopping!
